General Instructions
for shipping samples
- Uniquely identify each sample
- Securely package samples to avoid leakage
- Inform Metabolic Solutions prior to shipping
samples
Include the following documentation with your shipment
- Sample list and analysis required
- Purchase order
- Contact information
- Any pertinent information our laboratory should
be aware of regarding the samples, such as nature
of sample, hazards, or approximate enrichment
Specific Instructions
The following are rules for shipping specimens. It is
always best to call Metabolic Solutions prior to making
a shipment to discuss shipping specification and to
make us aware of a pending shipment.
Plasma, Urine, and other liquids
Dry Ice and send by overnight delivery. Store samples
in cryogenic vials (Corning No. 430659 or equivalent).
Deuterium and Oxygen 18 samples
Dry Ice and send by overnight delivery. No dry ice
is required for non-biological samples. Do not send
samples with conventional ice or ice packs. Send dose
vials in separate shipment to prevent cross contamination.
Whole blood (blood CO2)
No dry ice. Ship overnight delivery.
Breath
No dry ice. Store breath samples in Labco 10 ml exetainer
tubes (contact Metabolic Solutions to order tubes).
Keep samples at room temperature. Use any mode of transportation.
Solids
Must be a well-homogenized mixture. Store in a sealed
plastic vial. Use any mode of transportation.
